Academic Advising

The School of Professional and Continuing Studies encourages current students to take advantage of our academic advising services. In addition to assisting students in developing a program of study, advisors provide tools and resources that are uniquely suited to adult learners.

Meeting with an advisor can help you plan a degree or course of study suited to your needs. You are urged to use this service since information about programs and University regulations is important to your academic success.

At SPCS our advisors are students’ principal point of contact for academic issues that affect progress toward a degree. Advisors can assist with course planning, registration and academic counseling, and they can direct students to a variety of campus resources.

Contact your advisor any time you have questions or updates about your program of study. Some common advising appointments may address (but are not limited to) the following scenarios:

  • You have questions about majors, minors or certificate programs.
  • You’re getting ready to file for graduation.
  • You’re preparing to register for the next semester and want to plan your schedule.
  • You want to explore changing majors or adding a minor.
  • You have questions about the registration process.
  • You’re experiencing academic difficulties and/or progress.
  • You need information about comprehensive exams or capstone experiences.
  • You seek details about licensure.
  • You’re exploring internships or embedded field experiences

Students are advised according to a declared program of study. Contact an advisor by email or call the SPCS office to make an appointment: (804) 289-8133.
