Teacher Licensure Completion (TLC)

In response to the documented need to support in-service teachers at high-need schools who take nontraditional and provisional pathways toward teacher licensure, we offer the Teacher Licensure Completion (TLC) program for provisionally licensed teachers. TLC educators from high need schools across the region can complete VDOE requirements to earn full licensure.

The TLC program offers a steeply discounted pathway toward licensure. SPCS provides vouchers to cover the cost of all licensure exam fees and provides deeply discounted tuition for professional learning courses, currently $400 per 3-semester-hour course.

The program’s goal is to ensure that well-trained, high-quality teachers serve the most vulnerable students in our region’s high-need schools.

We provide vital coaching support for in-service and first-year teaching stages to be sure that provisional and early career educators receive the ongoing development and non-evaluative feedback needed to ensure long-term success in the field.

TLC participants receive a university support coach who does not evaluate participants or report to building or division personnel. They also receive personal advising sessions to help understand VDOE requirements for full licensure.

Funding for the TLC program is provided in part by a two-year grant from the R.E.B. Foundation.

Who’s TLC For?

  • Provisionally licensed teachers seeking a clear, direct and cost-effective pathway toward licensure.
  • Provisionally licensed teachers who seek to serve students in local high-need schools.
  • Professionals who seek coaching support in addition to support provided by their school or division.
