Dr. Bob Spires and the SPCS Graduate Education program hosted a delegation of higher education leaders from Cambodia in February on the University campus. The group included the following members:

  • Dr. Nith Bunlay, Deputy Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport
  • Dr. Seth Khan, Rector, National University of Cheasim Kamchaymear
  • Ms. Seth Rasavoty, International Relations Officer, National University of Cheasim Kamchaymear
  • Mr. Khy Vannet, Vice-rector, Cambodian University of Specialties
  • Mr. Kean Kean, Vice-rector, Royal University of Phnom Penh

The group toured campus, visited the international education office and then participated in a roundtable discussion with 20 guests regarding the opportunities and challenges for international travel and study for universities.

A number of units across campus were represented, among them the Office of International Education, the Office for Sustainability and the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement.

Additionally, several community nonprofits were represented including the Highland Support Project, H.O.P.E (Helping Others Pursue Education), Khmer Samacky Monastery and the Angkor Resource Center.

Several undergraduate students were in attendance including two Cambodian students studying at UR and two students who visited Cambodia through EnCompass study abroad in 2023.

Spires and Shields led a discussion with Nith and the group.
