Next Generation Leadership Academy (NGLA)

The Center for Leadership in Education concluded its 19th Next Generation Leadership Academy on Wednesday, March 20. In partnership with seven regional school divisions, 46 current and aspiring leaders from the counties of Amelia, Caroline, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, and the City of Richmond successfully completed this yearlong leadership exploration.

Monthly session themes included the following:

  • A Dive into Educational Leadership — Dr. Kim Bridges, Virginia Commonwealth University
  • Eyes on Leadership — Dr. Michelle McQueen-Williams, Virginia Union University
  • Supporting High-Quality Instruction Through Literacy Leadership — Dr. Sarah Tanner-Anderson, Longwood University
  • Trauma Responsive Leadership — Dr. Erik Laursen, University of Richmond
  • Coaching and Communication to Promote Change and Growth — Dr. Dana Jackson, Dr. Kate Cassada, University of Richmond

As a culminating activity, participants joined an unconference model with engaging, timely, and relevant discussions led by our expert education faculty.

Topics included the following:

  • How Leaders Can Promote Creativity in Instruction and Assessment — Rob McAdams, MFA
  • Unpacking the Census: Understanding Changing Demographics in the Region — Dr. Tom Shields
  • Time Saving Tips and Organizational Tricks for School Leaders — Dr. Dana Jackson
  • Building Successful Pathways for ELL Students — Dr. Laura Kuti

NGLA values the rich, lasting partnerships with local educators and celebrates the impact that NGLA graduates have on their schools and divisions as they serve teachers, children, and families throughout the region.

Teacher LEAD

Teacher LEAD a partnership between the Chesterfield County Public Schools Office of Professional Learning and the Center for Leadership in Education. The next session will be conducted during the summer of 2024 in June and August.
