The School of Professional & Continuing Studies has partnered with Richmond meteorologist Jim Duncan to launch a winter weather planning course for local and regional organization leaders.

Winter Weather Warning: Using Weather to Inform Organizational Decision Making prepares participants with best-practices for critical decision making and safety planning for extreme and severe winter weather.

Because decision-making and safety planning are at stake for professionals, business managers, company owners, school administrators and others, Duncan offers his forecasting expertise and years of experience to help leaders make extreme weather-related decisions.

The five-week class is scheduled on Wednesday evenings via Zoom starting October 13. The class covers the following topics.

  • Winter Weather Risks: An overview of winter weather hazards
  • National Weather Service (NWS): Overview of the official NWS forecast and menu of products
  • Building Your Model: Developing your decision-making model for winter weather impacts
  • Weather API: The new gold standard for weather information delivery
  • Weather & Technology: Using social media & other sources for decision planning & sharing

The inaugural class has limited enrollment. Visit spcs.richmond.edu/weather for more information and to register online.
