    Merrill has a PhD in higher education administration from Loyola University Chicago, and has been a faculty member for 17 years in education or communication departments at Randolph-Macon College, University of Hawaii, Loyola University Chicago, Northwestern University, and Penn State. She studies and teaches social entrepreneurship education, student affairs administration, college student development, intercultural communication, leadership, and facilitation. Merrill is a consultant and professional facilitator of difficult conversations about self-discovery, diversity, inclusion, and leadership.
