2020 End of Year Celebration

The end of the academic year for graduating degree-seeking students represents a series of celebrations. But the coronavirus pandemic made celebrating the SPCS Graduating Class of 2020 something we had to do while socially distanced. And although we’ll celebrate 2020 graduates during 2021 Commencement Exercises, and we’ll hold an award ceremony for the SPCS Class of 2020 as soon as it’s safe to do so, this year’s graduation season was all about celebrating virtually.

So we’d like to take a few moments to share some of these celebrations with you, capturing the uniqueness of this year’s commencement season.

We celebrated our class of 2020 graduating degree-seeking students with a video message from President Ronald A. Crutcher, with a charge to hone our vision for the future from Dean Jamelle S. Wilson, and with written reflections by those who would have addressed the graduating class at Commencement.

On this page you’ll find slideshows, features and stories, videos and more that highlight how we celebrated graduation during quarantine.

While our celebrations were different and considerably subdued, we are no less proud of our SPCS class of 2020!

Reflections from the Dean

Jamelle Wilson headshotDean Wilson shared her reflections on this unusual semester and the challenges faced and overcome by the SPCS graduating class of 2020.

“Years from now when you pull out your life’s book and look back at the chapter represented by your time in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, I know you will be reminded of the themes of determination and endurance; you also may note that this chapter contained periods of uncertainty, struggle and doubt. But most importantly, I hope this chapter reminds you of how this part of your life’s journey expanded your view and helped you on your quest to see perfectly — with 20/20 vision.”
