Why earn a master’s degree in liberal arts?

Employers seek workers and executives who communicate effectively and demonstrate strong analytical and evaluative skills. They also seek employees and leaders who can make ethical decisions in the workplace and with customers and clients.

Meet the needs of the professional workplace.

A graduate degree in liberal arts provides the background, education and training in developing and practicing these valuable “soft skills” that you need to match your skills to employer needs.

Keep working while earning a graduate degree.

Our Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) degree at the Richmond’s School of Professional & Continuing Studies is designed for working adults and encourages part-time study and customization. Study the history of ideas in the global marketplace. Customize your study with a self-defined focus area. And apply what you learn directly to your job.

Customize your course of study.

The MLA requires 4 core courses and 6 focus area courses. Your focus area is defined in consultation with the program chair, meaning you customize your course of study and outcomes. And the MLA does not require standardized test scores for admission or a thesis for graduation.
