Badges at UR
SPCS has deployed a professional education badging strategy that provides credential earners the opportunity to claim a digital badge that is portable and demonstrates to employers and colleagues that they’ve fulfilled the program’s requirements. A digital badge from the University of Richmond is a visual representation that the earner has accomplished specific program outcomes that are identified by the badge.
We’re committed to providing you with the tools necessary to achieve your professional goals and we understand that communicating your credentials in an ever-expanding online marketplace can be challenging. That’s why we’ve partnered with Credly to provide you with a digital version of your credentials. Digital badges can be used in email signatures or digital résumés, and on social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and X (Twitter). The badge digital image contains verified metadata that describes your qualifications and the process required to earn them.
Badges available through SPCS are issued and maintained through Credly. In order to claim an earned badge, earners must create a free Credly profile. For more details, review the FAQ below.
We issue badges at three different levels. Each level is represented by a different color in the bottom portion of our badge as indicated by the color of each block below. Visit our profile page to see the badges we offer.
Foundational
Earners of a foundational badge are expected to grasp foundational concepts and skills, actively engage in discussions and/or hands-on learning, and meet minimum participation requirements. Additionally, earners should demonstrate evidence of basic critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient
Earners of a proficient badge are expected to exhibit proficiency in foundational concepts and specialized transferrable skills, able to apply skills to real-world, subject-specific scenarios. Additionally, earners should demonstrate evidence of more advanced critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Professional
Earners of a professional badge should demonstrate mastery of intricate concepts and skills and should autonomously produce advanced work that surpasses expectations. Earners should demonstrate evidence of advanced critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, especially in the context of specialized skills.
Badges You Can Earn
Earn the AI-Assisted Grant Writing Badge
Students who complete this workshop successfully will earn the AI-Assisted Grant Writing badge. Once earned, you can share this badge on your website, digital resume and social media profiles to demonstrate to employers and colleagues that you’ve completed the program’s outcomes.
Earn the Beer Brewer Professional Badge
In addition to earning a Professional Certificate from the University of Richmond, students who complete this program successfully will earn the Beer Brewer Professional badge. Once earned, you can share this badge on your website, digital resume and social media profiles to demonstrate to employers and colleagues that you’ve completed the program’s outcomes.
Earn the GIS Professional Badge
In addition to earning a Professional Certificate from the University of Richmond, students who complete this program successfully will earn the GIS Professional badge. Once earned, you can share this badge on your website, digital resume and social media profiles to demonstrate to employers and colleagues that you’ve completed the program’s outcomes.
Earn the Fund Development for Nonprofits Badge
In addition to earning a Certificate from the University of Richmond, students who complete this Institute successfully will earn the Fund Development for Nonprofits badge. How does my certification get displayed as a badge?
We have partnered with Credly to translate the learning outcomes you’ve demonstrated into a badge, issued and managed through the company digital badging platform. The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by IMS Global. This enables you to manage, share and verify your competencies digitally.

What are the benefits of a badge?
Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of. Credly also offers labor market insights, based on your skills. You can search and apply for job opportunities right through Credly.

Credly is the end-to-end solution for issuing and managing digital credentials. Credly works with credible organizations to provide digital credentials to individuals, worldwide.

How will I know if I’ve earned a badge?
You will receive an email notification from Credly (admin@credly.com) with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.

What if I don’t want my badge to be public?
You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.

Is there a fee to use Credly?
No. This is a service we provide to you, at no cost.

What’s to keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?
While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on Credly. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

Where and how can I share my badge through Credly?
You can share your badge directly from Credly to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature.

What are labor market insights and how can I access them through Credly?
Labor market insights are pulled from live job requisitions. Based on your skills you can learn which employers are hiring, what job titles you might be qualified for, salary ranges and more. Search active job listings and even apply for them with just a few clicks through Credly. Access the labor market insights from your badge details page by clicking on Related Jobs, or by clicking on the skill tags assigned to your badge.

Can I export badges issued through Credly to other badge-storing platforms?
Yes, you can download your badge from the Share Badge page. Your downloaded badge contains Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI) compliant metadata embedded into the image. This allows you to store your badge on other OBI-compliant badge sites, such as the Badgr Backpack.
