Coursework for Apprenticeships
The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is the state agency designated to administer the Virginia Registered Apprenticeship program. One of the most important aspects of the Registered Apprenticeship (RA) program is the Related Technical Instruction (RTI) component.
RTI includes relevant, occupation-specific, theoretical content that supports on-the-job training at the apprenticeship worksite. Employers and sponsors articulate their need for Related Technical Instruction to DOLI, and the regional Registered Apprenticeship Consultant works to match a RTI provider to the apprentice.
DOLI relies on many different RTI providers to meet the needs of the employer and their apprentices. Four-year universities and colleges can be a significant source of theoretical instruction that helps to make apprenticeship programs comprehensive.
We’re proud that the University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies (SPCS) is among eligible RTI providers in Virginia.
Eligible Programs
Any occupation that’s eligible for apprenticeship training can become a Virginia Registered Apprenticeship and could be supported by courses from among our programs of study.
Beer Brewer Professional Certificate
The curriculum for the Beer Brewer Professional Certificate is approved for RTI in a Virginia Registered Apprenticeship. Ours is the first program in the U.S. approved as a provider of RTI in support of the craft beer brewing industry. Contact your DOLI regional RA Consultant for details.
