Teaching with Technology

In partnership with Discovery Education, the School of Professional & Continuing Studies is offering a series of online professional development classes for educators focused on teaching and learning through virtual, in-person and hybrid formats. These classes leverage decades of experience that Discovery Education has in developing online resources and strategies for K-12 technology enhanced instruction and problem-based learning, including the Discovery Education Network (DEN) Community, to support Virginia’s educational needs.

Courses offered in this partnership respond directly to the pressing need facing schools across the state as they adopt varied models for teaching and learning during the 2020-21 school year and beyond.

Public and private school educators throughout Virginia are familiar with Discovery Education resources for K-12 classrooms. That same expertise is shared in our online teaching and learning classes, taught by University of Richmond adjunct faculty (who are also professional educators) using curriculum and resources developed by Discovery Education and UR faculty.

Discovery Education professional development programs leverage technology to foster curiosity, drive instructional impact, and help educators meet the needs of all learners. Designed for working educators, these classes combine the convenience of an online format with the expertise of the world’s instructional technology leaders. Our classes give educators opportunities to explore cutting-edge concepts, collaborate with like-minded teachers and leaders, and build the academic background needed to confidently integrate innovation and emerging technologies into their instruction.

To meet the need for innovative and productive virtual, in-person and online learning across the K-12 curriculum, we plan to offer a series of classes through this partnership. This list is tentative; the classes currently offered or available for registration are listed below and on the Professional Development Classes page.
