About Partners in the Arts

Partners in the Arts was founded in 1994 to train educators to integrate the arts into their preK-12 curriculum and provide support to implement school-based projects created in our courses, workshops, and professional development sessions.

Partners in the Arts was founded as a program of the Arts Council of Richmond, now CultureWorks, to encourage and train teachers in integrating creativity and the arts throughout the K-12 curriculum.

Partners in the Arts became a program of the University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies in 2010 to extend the School’s focus on community engagement and K-12 education in the Richmond region.

Partners in the Arts recently collaborated with Richmond Public School to win a $1.3M grant from the U.S. Department of Education for arts integration education for Richmond Public Schools teachers. The Arts Integrated Learning Certificate is the result of this grant, open exclusively to Richmond Public Schools educators.

Partners in the Arts is the Richmond region’s premier resource for arts integrated learning and creativity integration in K-12 classrooms. The center’s signature program is the Joan Oates Institute for Partners in the Arts, now a component of the Arts Integrated Learning Certificate.

The work of Partners in the Arts is overseen by its director, Rob McAdams, MFA; supported by its program coordinator, Stacy Hull, and advised by its board of advisors.
