Free GRE and LSAT Strategy Workshop on April 19, 2012
Join the School of Professional & Continuing Studies for its free GRE and LSAT Strategy Workshop on Thursday, April 19, in Jepson Hall room 120. Each session is free to attend and open to the public, but registration is required by selecting the appropriate link.
- GRE Prep Session: 5:30–7 p.m.
- LSAT Prep Session: 7–8:30 p.m.
The Strategy Workshop will:
- Introduce the GRE and LSAT exams
- Focus on test mechanics
- Review test administration and scoring
- Provide students with ideas about preparing for the exams, either on their own or through SPCS prep courses
- Provide valuable tips for taking each exam

The GRE Prep Course includes Practicing to Take the GRE General Test – the definitive publication from ETS, the official GRE provider, and the GRE Student Workbook, designed to supplement your classroom lessons and help you sharpen your test-taking skills.
Quantitative Test topics include:
- picking numbers, both for quantitative comparison and for multiple choice problems
- tips for breaking complex word problems into small, manageable parts
- tips for turning geometry diagrams into solvable equations
Verbal Test topics include:
- solving antonym and analogy problems when you don’t know the vocabulary
- answering reading comprehension questions quickly, without reading the entire passage
- using comparison and contrast clues to solve sentence completion problems
General Topics Include:
- utilizing the process of elimination
- mastering time management skills
- minimizing test anxiety
- identifying common distracters
- Additionally, strategies for the analytical writing section are outlined, and sample prompts with accompanying essays are discussed.
The GRE measures critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The GRE is required for a large variety of master’s degree and doctoral degree programs.
The GRE Prep course covers Reading Comprehension, Sentence Completion, Analogies, Antonyms, Problem Solving, Quantitative Comparison, Analytical Writing, and a comprehensive review of the mathematical concepts tested on the GRE General Exam.

- Lesson 2: Ordering games, Statement Role items, Argument Evaluation, Explain/Resolve items
- Lesson 3: Ordering games, Grouping games, Weakener/Strengthener items
- Lesson 4: Grouping games, Flaw items
- Lesson 5: Grouping games, Assumption items, Analyzing Reading passages, Global Reading Comp items
- Lesson 6: Grouping games, Formal Logic Items, Local Reading Comp items
- Lesson 7: Grouping games, Inference items, Reading Comp review
- Lesson 8: Combination games, Matching Structure/Flaw items
- Lesson 9: Combination games, Strategy/Point at issue items, Reading Comp review
- Lesson 10: Analytical Reasoning review, Principle items, Reading Comp review
The LSAT is a paper-based standardized exam that is administered four times per year. Our LSAT Test Prep courses are precisely scheduled to make sure students reach exam day performing at their peak.
You'll benefit from 30 hours of classroom instruction from experienced teaching professionals. Our program uses proven techniques to simplify the LSAT. The program includes three diagnostic exams, textbooks and materials to help you master the skills needed to ace the LSAT.
