SAT Preparation Program: STEPS to Success
Join the hundreds of high school students who have benefited from this unique and specialized program from dozens of schools across Virginia each semester!
S.T.E.P.S. to Success, a unique SAT preparation program offered by the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, is specifically designed to introduce important skills, techniques and strategies, along with an abundance of practice and review-critical areas requiring focus for success on test day.
S.T.E.P.S. to Success focuses on three major areas:
- Critical reading, which measures the student's abilities in extended reasoning, literal comprehension and vocabulary in context.
- Mathematics, which measures the student's abilities in numbers and operations, algebra and functions, geometry and measurement, data analysis, statistics and probability.
- Writing, which measures the student's mastery of standard written English, along with skills in developing and expressing a point of view on an issue.
Program Details
With instruction given by highly experienced education professionals, each session offers intense practice and review of questions and answers commonly found on the Reasoning Test.
Classes are held on campus, where students are presented with a unique opportunity to learn in a college environment and actively engage in concentrated and focused lessons throughout the weekend.
Spring Weekend Workshops
Sessions are held over the course of a weekend, including Saturday 9:00 AM-2:00 PM and Sunday 1:00-5:00 PM. The course fee includes books, workshop materials, lunch and refreshments. Workshop fee is $210.

Spring Math Focus Courses
These courses provide an excellent opportunity to engage specifically in math skills, techniques, and strategies for the upcoming S.A.T. tests. Sessions are held over the course of a weekend, including Saturday 1:00-3:00 PM and Sunday 1:00-3:00 PM. The course fee ($95) includes books and workshop materials.

Paying for College Parent/Guardian Workshop
Parents/guardians of students enrolled in a Weekend Workshop are invited to attend a complimentary session in understanding the tools needed in order to pay for college. Sessions are held on Sundays from 3-5 p.m., January 15, February 26, April 22 and May 20.
Summer 4-Day Workshop
This 4-day course covers the Math and Reading Comprehension subject areas. Take your preparation to the next level in both of these areas! Sessions are held Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Course fee ($410) includes all books, materials, and lunch in the Heilman Dining Center each day.

Subject-Specific (Math & Verbal) Focus Sessions
MATH: Take your Math S.A.T. to the next level! This course provides an excellent opportunity to engage specifically in math skills, techniques, and strategies. Course fee ($210) includes books, materials, and morning refreshments.
VERBAL: Get ready for concentrated practice in grammar, sentence completions, reading comprehension, and a general heightening of your verbal skills preparedness. In our Reading Comprehension &Writing Focus Sessions, you’ll learn and develop strategies for tackling the questions on these important sections of the test, and you will have the opportunity to refine your skills in these areas. Course fee ($210) includes books, materials, and morning refreshments.
