About the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

History and Purpose

Thanks to the generosity of the The Bernard Osher Foundation, the network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes across the United States is meeting the needs of older learners who want to learn simply for the joy of learning and personal fulfillment. The University of Richmond Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning is one of 119 institutes across the country, all supported by the National Resource Center.

Established in 2004 at the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Richmond offers an extensive array of courses in the liberal arts in the fall, spring and summer semesters. These offerings are a combination of undergraduate credit courses for audit, special interest mini-courses, free lectures, community service projects, performing arts events and more.

If you’re 50 or better with a curious mind and a keen interest in learning, we’d love for you to join us. You can become an OLLI member for as little as $75 per year.

Osher Strategic Plan

The Osher Institute embarked on a strategic planning process in June 2014. The objective of this planning process was to assess current conditions and trends and identify near-term and longer-term initiatives to enhance and improve the program for lifelong learning. The strategic plan report was approved and implementation has begun. Each year we’ll report on our progress.

Additionally, as part of our strategic plan, we committed to conducting a membership survey every two years. To meet that commitment, we survey our members every two years in the fall. A Powerpoint provides an overview and analysis of the results, starting in 2016.
