Personal Fitness Trainer
General Information

The Department of Labor states there is a shortage of Health and Fitness Professionals. Come join this fun field and be a part of what ABC News calls the 4th hottest job in the U.S. at a national average salary of $25 an hour!

Whether needed for your career or for your own personal knowledge, get all the information you need to become a Certified Personal Trainer. This course is formatted as a 60-hour program and is composed of 15 hours of lecture, 15 hours of practical training, and a 30-hour internship. It covers topics including biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessment. W.I.T.S., the instructional provider, is the only major certifying body in the country providing comprehensive practical training and internship components.

After successfully completing this program, students will be able to:

  • Understand and describe basic anatomy, kinesiology and exercise physiology
  • Assess an individual’s level of fitness using American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines
  • Design and customize exercise programs
  • Demonstrate proper execution of resistance, cardio-respiratory and flexibility exercises
  • Identify and demonstrate at least one strength exercise for every major muscle group
  • Explain ACSM and AHA recommendations for cardiovascular exercise

This course is approved for massage therapists, occupational therapists and athletic trainers for recertification hours.

Requirements & Prerequisites

High school diploma or GED required. This is a beginning level course and no prerequisites are required.

Tuition fee includes 60-hours of lecture and practice training. Students must purchase Fitness Professional’s Handbook (6th ed.). ISBN-13: 9781450411172.

Your certification as a Personal Fitness Trainer will be issued after successful completion of the 60-hour program, 30-hour internship, and proof of adult CPR & AED certification.

Personal Training for Older Adults
General Information

Personal Training and Group Exercise Training for Older Adults

If you're interested in developing safe and effective exercise programs for older adults, the Personal Training and Group Exercise Training for Older Adults Online Program is for you! The certificate program incorporates standards from the International Curriculum Guidelines for Preparing Physical Activity Instructors of Older Adults, in collaboration with and endorsed by the World Health Organization.

This program is approved for 50 Continuing Education Credits through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Objectives

Upon completing the Personal Training and Group Exercise Training for Older Adults Program, you'll:

  • Be prepared to work as a fitness trainer, manager or owner in the older adult market
  • Identify and define predictors of successful aging and characteristics that relate to individual participation in physical activity programs
  • Be able to design exercise programs for preventive health

Prerequisites

Students do need to receive CPR certification and approval by the program coordinator prior to beginning the Optional Field Internship Program.

The goal of this course is to examine the profound physical and psychological benefits of physical activity and movement. The various types of physical activity and factors of an effective exercise program are described, along with their associated benefits and risks. The course also reviews the mechanics of breathing and two types of movement activities: yoga and Tai Chi Chuan. Finally, the important steps required for initiating a physical activity program are outlined.

Description
Get two nationally certified Personal Trainer Certifications for the price of one! Whether for a career move or for personal knowledge, you can get all the information needed to become a Certified Personal Trainer. Our personal trainer course is a great way to prepare to be a successful nationally Certified Personal Trainer. The course consists of 15 hours of lecture with key topics that include biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage, and health assessment followed by 15 hours of hands-on practical training labs with role-playing drills on exercises, presentation skills, etc. to help you master the position. Level 1 Nationally Certified Personal Trainer: successfully complete the written and practical exams. CPR/AED required. Level 2 Nationally Certified Personal Trainer: successfully complete your Level 1 exams followed by a 30 hour internship that will help connect to local employers.
