Planning large events and weddings requires business organization, logistics, networking, and client relationship management skills. Our programs in wedding and event planning provide resources, expertise, instruction and experience to intern for or join an existing firm or start your own event planning company.

We offer certificate programs in wedding planning, event management, and event planning and design.

Event Management & Design
General Information

The Event Management and Design Online Training Program will equip you with the knowledge to advance in the field if you’re already working in special events, or it will prepare you to enter the profession with an understanding of the industry. You'll build a foundation that you can use to build a career in special events or start your own special event business. This online certificate program is offered in partnership with major colleges, universities, and other accredited education providers.

Upon successful completion of the Event Management and Design program, you’ll:

  • Understand the five stages of event management: research, design, planning, coordination, and evaluation
  • Understand how to manage time effectively
  • Learn how to manage human resources and volunteers
  • Have insight into hiring vendors, caterers, sound and light technicians, entertainment, and other resources
  • Learn how to conduct an event site inspection
  • Be knowledgeable about risk-management procedures and tactics
  • Learn about the requirements for necessary contracts, permits, and licenses, and how to meet these requirements
  • Understand budgeting, pricing, and accounting as they relate to event design
  • Be able to apply the principles of design to event decoration and effectively use flowers, fabric, lighting, and more

This program is split up into two modules: Special Event Management and Special Event Design and Decoration. Each module includes multiple units complete with interactive presentations. Corporate events, weddings, parades, festivals, and more are covered. You'll learn about the practicalities of planning events and the dazzle of designing them. From permits to pyrotechnics, this program will teach you how to design, plan, implement, and evaluate special events.

Upon registering, you're given an initial six months to complete this program.  Should you need more time beyond the six months, an extension of six months is available at no additional cost.

Wedding & Event Planner
General Information

This program teaches the fundamentals of planning, orchestrating and delivering social events as well as owning and operating a successfully wedding and event planning business. From weddings and anniversaries to birthdays and baby showers, this detailed step-by-step methodology teaches clear and concise formulas for detailing the personal and professional aspects of any social event.

Becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner requires business organization, logistics, networking, and client relationship management skills. The online resource library contains hundreds of business templates and industry resource documents to complement students’ wedding planning talents and growing business needs. Business tools such as contracts, business and marketing plans, fee structures, service offerings and more are available to learn from and develop for practical application. Curriculum is updated throughout the year from industry professionals providing feedback on the best practices, latest trends and newest technology to support industry professionals.

As a graduate of this program, you will have the option to participate in a customized internship that meets your career objectives, start your own wedding and event planning business, or join an existing company.

Tuition includes textbook, online resource access, workbooks, testing and national certification from the Wedding Planning Institute (WPI).

In this online course, you will learn how to design signature events using techniques and formulas used by the industry's most recognized leaders in event design and decor. This course walks you through step-by-step processes, pricing formulas, and design techniques used to create and transform ordinary spaces into theatrical environments as you translate a client's vision into reality. This is an online, instructor-led course. You must have Internet access to participate. Students will have six months to complete the certification once starting the program. You may begin the program at any time.
