LEED Exam Preparation
General Information

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is transforming the way we think about how our buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe. Comprehensive and flexible, LEED is a green building tool that addresses the entire building lifecycle recognizing best-in-class building strategies.

At its core, LEED is a program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. If you are looking to show that you have the key technical knowledge, experience and credibility in the exploding green building marketplace, a LEED professional credential is your pathway to success.

A LEED professional credential signifies that you are a leader in the field and an active participant in the green building movement who contributes expertise to the design, construction, operations and maintenance of buildings and neighborhoods that save energy, use fewer resources, reduce pollution, and contribute to healthier environments for their occupants and the community.

We offer several exam preparation programs to prepare you for LEED Green Associate and LEED AP specialty certification through the US Green Building Council.

Nutrient Dense Gardening Program
General Information

For the home gardeners, community gardeners, CSA Growers, market gardeners, church and school gardeners, and anyone thinking about growing food, this course is designed to take you stepbystep through the principles, practices, and materials that will optimize the health and productivity of your garden.

The basis behind this series is that by creating the ideal environment for the plants being grown, the plants will reach their fullest potential. That means that the nutrient content of the plants will be at their peak, they will produce more yield, and pests and diseases will be avoided due to the plant’s natural defenses. We are creating conditions for the plants to thrive as nature intended.

We will start with the soil, where it all begins. You will learn to identify soil mineral deficiencies and how to rebalanced them with a variety of materials, mainly rock minerals, sea minerals, organic matter, and some biological inoculants. In addition to the biological inoculants, bacteria and fungi, food for the soil life is added such as fish, kelp, humates, and sugar or molasses.

From the soil we then move on to seed inoculation, transplant inoculation, and monitoring soil and plant health. As the course progresses we will learn the details of plant and soil monitoring, nutrient drenches and foliar sprays. Other details that will be discussed are plant physiology, plant and fungal/bacterial symbioses, the timing of growth and fruiting cycles, and foliar sprays designed to affect leaf or fruit growth will be explained.

Program Outcomes

The certificate program covers content in a single course meeting multiple times during a term. By the end of the certificate course, students will:

  • Understand how our health is connected with the management of the soil.
  • Know the foundations and ecological management practices that create healthy soil and nutrient dense foods.
  • Know how to plan a vegetable garden for their needs.
  • Understand how important the initial stages of life are for determining the production potential of crops.
  • Be able to recognize deficiencies during the growing season and how to address them.
  • Know how to collect and save their own seeds for the next year’s garden.
  • Know how to harvest and preserve their crops for future enjoyment.
