UR Coding Bootcamp

The School of Professional & Continuing Studies, in partnership with Trilogy Education Services, introduces the 24-week full stack UR Coding Bootcamp that prepares students to become web developers. This classroom-based program meets on the University of Richmond campus. UR Coding Bootcamp is a part-time program with convenient evening and weekend sessions tailored to the needs of working adults and full-time students.

Program of Study

The curriculum incorporates a blend of high-demand technologies, computer science fundamentals, and sample code interview questions to prepare students to succeed on job interviews. The program of study is optimized for the Richmond market, meaning students who complete Coding Bootcamp will be ready for local jobs. Technologies and frameworks covered during the program include, among others:

  • HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery
  • Java and Bootstrap
  • Express.js, React.js, Node.js
  • Database Theory
  • Bookshelf.js
  • MongoDB, MySQL
  • Command Line
  • Git

Outcomes

When students complete the program, they should have the skills to:

  • Understand the process of serving a webpage and how the browser renders code
  • Build front-end websites from scratch, as well as with ready-made frameworks
  • Create full-stack, single-page web applications with RESTful routes and AJAX methods
  • Generate dynamic content and implement user-authentication schemes by incorporating different types of databases — MySQL, MongoDB and Firebase
  • Develop apps while applying the accepted and standard basics of social coding — source control, issue tracking, functional feedback, etc.
  • Run through the entire development cycle of complex projects in both independent and collaborative settings

Admissions Requirements

No coding experience is required. The program offers students with little or no prior experience 50 hours of pre-course tutorials. A college degree is not required, but strong reasoning time management skills are essential to success. This program is not open enrollment: Applicants will be required to take a coding test and complete an academic interview with a member of our academic team before an admissions decision is made.   • Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
