STEPS to Success: College Entry Test Preparation

STEPS to Success (Strategies & Techniques for Enhancing Performance and Skills) introduces important skills, techniques and strategies to maximize success on test day. We offer programs to help students prepare for the ACT, SAT and even PSAT/NMSQT.

Highly experienced educators offer intense practice and review of questions commonly found on the tests. Classes are held on the University of Richmond campus.

Program Options (not all are offered each term)

  • ACT Prep Workshops — Intensive practice and review of subject-specific test areas
  • PSAT/NMSQT Prep Class — Prepare for the PSAT and improve chances of National Merit Scholarship eligibility
  • SAT Summer Workshop — Four-day intensive workshop covering strategies along with Math and Verbal skills
  • SAT Weekend Workshops — Two-day math and reading comprehension session
  • SAT Math Focus Sessions — Intensive practice and review of math areas
  • SAT Verbal Focus Sessions — Intensive practice and review of critical reading and writing areas
  • SAT Sunday Refresher Session — Two-hour review session in September for those who attended a Summer Workshop
  • Choosing a Career Path — Two-hour session utilizing results from the Strong Interest Inventory to help identify occupation(s) and college major(s)
  • Choosing a College — Two-hour session on how to identify colleges that align with career and other important interests

Description
NEW! What do you want to do when you finish high school? Identifying a career path is the first step in deciding what occupation(s) and college major(s) might be right for you. Learn how your interests fit into career families, and then identify what possible occupations are related. This interactive workshop requires you to complete an online assessment prior to the workshop. Upon confirmation of your registration, log-in information for the assessment will be provided. Assessment results will be handed out and interpreted during the workshop. This course is designed for rising 9-12 grade students. (Please see Notes for information regarding Assessment.)

NEW! Choosing the right college can feel overwhelming when deciding between options and trying to understand the requirements needed to get in. However, it really can be a fun and exciting experience if you have the tools and knowledge needed to help you make a decision. Join us in this interactive workshop where you will learn how to identify colleges that offer majors that align with your career interests. We will also discuss other aspects of college that may be important to you in narrowing down your options. This course is designed for rising 9-12 grade students.
