Writing is such a basic skills that it is often taken for granted. Yet specialized careers and professions required specialized writing skills and abilities.

Our courses cover the gamut of personal and professional writing, from the novice flirting with starting a work of fiction (see Creative Writing) to the professional seeking to improve proofreading and editing skills. The Basic Technical Writing Certificate consists of three courses that have been developed for those entering into the field for the first time or those in the downsized IT industry. The Basic Certificate in Technical Writing program is Instructor-Led, meaning you learn from highly qualified industry and tech writing university faculty. Now in its 15th year, our program has been designed for those who lack sufficient experience in the field or those who want to enhance existing careers in technical writing or move in a new direction within the corporate workplace.

Description
This certificate is designed to help new and existing writers work within a range of styles specific to the field of technical writing while building a porfolio.This program focuses on advancing writing styles and competencies that impact on technical written reports, project proposals, feasibility studies, website communication, presentations, manuals, and other forms of technical correspondence. A well-rounded technical writer should have knowledge and writing experience across these areas. This program requires that the student follow specific instructions for each lesson. We have been careful to communicate exactly what is expected. The student may turn in their first writing sample to make sure they are on the right track for development of a portfolio, midway through and the end of the course. Since each lesson hinges on the previous one, the same methodology applies. It is the final portfolio that will be reviewed and graded by the administrator of the course.

Description
This is a comprehensive program comprised of exercises, projects, checklists, quizzes, and case studies that are geared exclusively towards all aspects of technical communications. This program provides resources and information that will enable you to advance your skill set to a mastery level. We invite both experienced and novice technical communicators to enhance your skill set and become familiar with the concepts presented in this comprehensive program. This program utilizes a textbook and companion website that is closely identified with the course objectives. You will be provided with valuable weblinks that are relative to the subject area and can also be used as a reference tool after the program has been completed. You may choose one project at the end of each chapter to reinforce the concepts presented and use the guidelines that are provided to perform specific activities. The principles of effective technical communication are continuously enforced throughout the entire program. Participants will be able to use the quiz to test skill level and conduct valuable research applicable to each area. Due to the nature of this program, we recommend that you apply the techniques and guidelines found in both appendices in the textbook to all of your projects. In order to reach this mastery level, you are required to understand, recognize, and apply the proper grammar, usage, and mechanics to all of the work you perform and submit.
