After reviewing the ECT Award information, criteria and guidelines, follow the steps below to submit your Application with Project Narrative.

PIA ECT Award Application Process

Prepare
Assemble Your Team

Engage with colleagues to build your collaborative team. Teams may be as small as two teachers or much, much larger. Team members may be teachers and administrators from any discipline. Note that an accepted proposal will fund a limited number of Joan Oates Institute participants. Review the Funding Levels on the ECT Awards page for details.

Administrator Support

Confirm administrative support for the team and its project proposal.

Framework & Funding Level

Identify a broad framework into which the proposal fits and determine the funding level. If this is your first proposal, you are submitting an Engaging level proposal.

Draft A Narrative Response

During the application process, you’ll be asked to attach a narrative response. Review the narrative response guidelines and prepare your draft as a Word or PDF document.

Application Timeline

Be aware of (and follow) the proposal and notification schedule.

  • December 7, 2016: Proposal application opens
  • February 13, 2017 at 5pm: Deadline for Emerging or Sustaining application and proposal
  • April 3, 2017: Accepted proposals notified of acceptance

Leading applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Implementation Timeline
  • June 26-30, 2017: Lead teachers attend JOI 2017
  • July-September 2017: Consult with PIA to plan professional development, workshops, residencies and assessments.

The duration and timing of your project will determine when professional development and implementation occur. For example, a 4-week fall project would have the following schedule:

  • August-October 2017: Staff professional development
  • November-December 2017: Implementation

  • To create an account, please enter a valid e-mail address to which you have immediate access.
  • You will receive a temporary password by e-mail, then access to the proposal form.
Application Sections

The application is divided into the following parts. Please be sure to complete all required fields (indicated by an asterisk) and contact PIA with questions.

Project Coordinator Information: This should be the team leader.

School Information: Be aware that PIA ECT Awards are available only to teachers from eligible PIA Consortium divisions in good standing.

Project Lead Team: The team of teachers that will implement the project. Does not include the Project Coordinator.

Project Information: Requires Framework and Funding Level selection, project parameters and proposed budget, and the Project Narrative.

Verifications: Be sure your school leadership is aware of your project proposal.
