SCS Alumni Association
The School of Continuing Studies Alumni Association’s mission is to encourage alumni participation that benefits students and the University of Richmond by promoting scholarship and providing opportunities for service and fellowship.
Message from Dr. James L. Narduzzi, Dean
Greetings to all University College and School of Continuing Studies alumni! The 2011-2012 academic year promises to be an exciting year for the School. We will begin implementation of our new strategic plan, with all of the changes effective by the start of fall 2012. And we will finish planning for our 50th anniversary, which will occur during the 2012-2013 academic year.
The School continues to attract a large, diverse, and talented group of students who will someday become devoted alumni like you. This past year, your alumni association welcomed alumni back to the Homecoming Weekend breakfast, hosted the fourth annual scholarship golf tournament, which generated over $10,000 to the joint alumni-SGA scholarship, and set records for membership and giving. We are grateful to the board for their efforts on behalf of the association, the school, and the university.
As an alumnus, your greatest gift to the school is your time and talent, which are vital to the School’s future. I’ll repeat my mantra: Attend at least one School event on campus this year (the School’s Homecoming Weekend breakfast is October 22; Reunion Weekend, June 1-3, 2012; and check the Alumni Events page for our monthly networking breakfast series and other events); make a gift to the School at whatever level you are able; use your alumni discount to enroll in a credit class or non-credit Think Again class; enroll in UROnline to receive regular communications from the University; and serve as an ambassador to the metropolitan Richmond community, encouraging others to visit campus and avail themselves of all that SCS and UR have to offer.
Thanks for your continued engagement and support, and best wishes for a productive and rewarding year,
Jim
Message from Dianne St. John, C‘07, SCS Alumni Association Board President
Welcome to all alumni of the School of Continuing Studies! It is my pleasure to serve as your President this year. The Association’s mission is to benefit our alma mater; our alumni through programs and projects that provide service opportunities and fellowship; and our students through our fundraising efforts for scholarships!
As your President, I want to share information about some of our upcoming programs and events:
Throughout the 2011-2012 academic year, the Alumni Association and the SCS Student Government Association are co-sponsoring a series of breakfasts focused on career building. While there is no charge, students and alumni must register in advance to attend.
Our SCS Homecoming Breakfast will be held 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 22, in the Brown/Alley Room of Weinstein Hall. This is a change in our location from previous years. We will have door prizes which include a drawing for two (2) tickets to the UR/William and Mary game on November 19; an opportunity to visit with former classmates and see some of the changes taking place around campus. The SCS Homecoming Breakfast is a free event; however, we encourage you to register so we may be adequately prepared.
We also extend an invitation to join us for the 2nd Annual SCS AA Tailgate. This will be on November 19 in the newly erected Spider Village on the Millhiser Green before the big game between U of R and rival William and Mary. Game time is 12 noon. Tailgate party will start at 9:00 AM. Tickets to the football game are not required to attend the tailgate.
We will also be hosting our fifth SCS AA Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Richmond Country Club. This is our major fundraiser for SCS AA-SCS SGA scholarship. If you are a golfer, please organize your foursome now. If you are not a golfer, there are numerous volunteer opportunities. The day concludes with a fabulous dinner buffet and awards ceremony. The dinner is open to all (there is a nominal charge).
I encourage you to become active in your Alumni Association. Attend a Spider sporting event or Modlin Center performance; take a credit or non-credit course; make a donation to the SCS Annual fund; or just visit campus again. If you are not connected, become connected. If you are connected, stay connected.
Go Spiders,
Dianne
